This Week in Comics: 07/05/10
There is only one comic you need this week. (This weeks color theme has the hue’s of “Love”)
MONDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
Casanova is my favorite comic book.
“Wait,” you shout. “But Issue One hasn’t even come out yet!”
Fourteen issues of Casanova came out from Image Comics in the mid-to-late 2000s before Fraction and co. decided to take a break to, y’know, make a living. But now they’re all famous and Marvel Comics decided to republish it in full-color with new lettering and some other tweaks.
TUESDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
I picked up the first volume of Casanova in 2009 and fell in love. Issues 8 through 14 were never collected in trade form (yet), so I had to track down every single issue. Then I fell in love some more.
By the time Volume 3 comes around I’ll probably be asking paper to marry me.
WEDNESDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
Hey, kids, do you like Matt and Sal’s Invincible Iron Man? Well, Casanova is like that, but better. You’ve got your supercool protagonist, S.H.I.E.L.D.-like thingies, MODOK-like thingies, alternate universes, and other crazy sci-fi shit. It is the best thing. You need it.
THURSDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
The return of Casanova is doubly exciting for (appropriately) two reasons:
1. Fraction has done NO creator-owned work since Casanova went on hiatus. Since then it’s been all X-Men and Iron Man, and other assorted Marvel things.
2. The new Casanova #1 features a new story by Fábio Moon, retelling the events of the first issue from a different character’s perspective. So, awesome recolorized comics and new material!
FRIDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
Casanova is my Sgt. Pepper’s, even though I don’t like Sgt. Pepper’s as much as Rubber Soul. So, I guess it’s my Rubber Soul. Either way, this is pop music in comics form. It’s beautiful. It’s heartbreaking. It’s exciting.
SATURDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
Casanova, may you never have a final issue. Y’know, except when Fraction actually ends the thing. IT’S FINALLY HERE
SUNDAY
Casanova #1
(Matt Fraction/Gabriel Bá/Fábio Moon)
ICON/Marvel Comics
IT’S FINALLY HERE
