SDCC 2010: Green Lantern: Emerald Empire Panel

In all honesty, I only sat through this panel so I could get off my feet for a few minutes.

I’ve said a lot of mean things about Geoff Johns on the internet, and I think I need to take them back considering how much I like The Flash and Green Lantern these days. And in person, he seems like a charming, likable guy. I really gotta stop being a dick on the Internet.

Featuring writers Johns and Tony Bedard, artists Joe Prado and Ivan Reis and editor Eddie Berganza, the Green Lantern gang talked about the perils of creating the book, how many e-mails went into designing the Black Lanterns (hint: a gazillion), and some attempts by the fans to coax some more Green Lantern film info from Johns himself, who’s acting as producer on the film.

Johns did, however, tease a Dex-Starr Valentine’s Day special (y’know, featuring the Red Lantern kitty) featuring Krypto the Superdog, which sounds like fun.

Also, did you know that Johns writes for Robot Chicken? I had no idea.

My personal favorite part of the panel was seeing the guy cosplaying as Sword of the Atom-era Ray Palmer. That’s a first for me.

For some reason, there’s a lot of talk about Larfleeze. I kind of see the appeal of the character in action — I just thought his name was stupid — but I had no idea fans were so nuts for the guy.

The panel ended with Geoff Johns leading the entire room in a recitation of the Green Lantern Oath. Guess you had to be there. All in all, a pretty entertaining sit-down.

Is this what growing up feels like?
