“The Final” Review

Rating: “The Final” Review - rating

I’m still bummed out that it’s almost Thanksgiving, because that means the world has gotten back to normal and has moved on from their one month love with the horrifying, the macabre, and the supernatural.  Now the only things that people are gonna care about for the next 2 months are family and tradition and joy and all that bunk.  Luckily the media world hasn’t forgotten about us die hard horror lovers, and so we still get treated to great events like the After Dark Horrorfest.

If you don’t know, Horrorfest is an annual horror movie festival that showcases 8 independent horror movies, distributed by After Dark Films.  The first Horrorfest began in 2006, showing in only 500 theaters in 35 cities.  Normally, the movies are released in the fall, but this upcoming Horrorfest will be held from January 29th through February 4th, 2010  If you miss seeing ‘em in the theater, fret not: the films always make it to DVD together, full of special features that give you a better glimpse into these independent worlds.  Horrorfest even hosts their own search for “Miss Horrorfest”: a beautiful goth-looking girl who fills the sexy role of…well, being called “Miss Horrorfest” and getting plastered all over their website in the skimpiest of threads…or blood…or a combination of both.  In fact, MonkeyToss TV has had a pretty good relationship with them over the years, tracking them down every Comic-Con, filming at their booth, being wacky and weird, and even interviewing Miss Horrorfest herself (and going home alone).

Over time, they’ve gained quite a reputation and following, and horror movie-goers look forward to the announcements of which films are being included in their annual line up, which is happening right now.  For this, their fourth year, Horrorfest has announced 7 films so far, such as Zombies of Mass Destruction: a zombie comedy, The Graves: a film by comic book creator Brian Pulido (Evil Ernie & Lady Death), and the latest installment to be announced: The Final…

The Final, written by Jason Kabolati and directed by Joey Stewart in his debut, is a revenge thriller following a group of outcast nerdy high school students that seek revenge on the bullies, jerks, and all around a-holes that have made their life hell, all while wearing crazy costumes.  Murderous kids offing high school idiots at a costume party? Sounds pretty awesome.

So it won’t be too much longer  ‘till next year’s Horrorfest hits.  As we get closer, more info will trickle in about their full line up and we’ll keep you updated with the latest murderous material!
